Children's Magazine Illustrations : Stories Layout

Children's Illustrations
Project Overview
For the children's magazine BAZOOF! the client requested one full spread layout, with individually created illustrations, and one half spread illustration. Other kid friendly illustration elements that could be placed in the magazine at a later time were also requested.
My Contributions
I created the initial illustrations and concepts through sketches, flat plans for layouts, and colour scheme. Once the concepts were approved, I polished them for publication.
Collage with the following: Top left an illustration with an ice rink and people skating on it. Top right a mock up of the page spread with the illustration and the layout. Bottom left is an illustration in an oval shape of a flat art ocean town, with grey skies. Bottom right is a mockup with the single page layout and illustrations that I did.

The Reason

From start to finish

The client wanted to see my whole process. References, concepts, colour schemes, digital and traditional sketches, rough ideas, and finished illustrations were requested. I made sure they were all 300 DPI, CMYK, within the appropriate bleed margin. Once a design or illustration was submitted the client would request revisions, and I would make them as needed.

The BAZOOF! logo. The B is purple, the A is yellow, the Z is bloo, the first O is green, the second O is orange and the F is red. There's a black checkmark at the end, and an orange with a gradient line underneath.

The Process

Publication

After changes were made, and files were confirmed to be ready for print, the quarterly publication began with my work in them. Both my full spread (BAZOOF! issue #75) and half spread (BAZOOF! issue #76) have been published. An ice rink illustration that I had turned into a "find the difference" game was also published (BAZOOF! issue #77).
